Indy 500…Or Bust…

27 05 2008

I attended my first race car event ever on Sunday.  My BF took me to see the Indianapolis 500.  I’m noImage Hosted by ImageShack.ust a race car fan myself, I’ve never actually sat and watched the Indy 500 or any other type of car race.  Although, recently I have seen snippets of some races because my BF is a HUGE fan of this type of stuff.  I didn’t know what really to expect.  I knew it would be a sight!!  I knew I would see drunks and lots and lots of Hillybillys!!!  But other than that I thought it would be a 2 or 3 hour race and then we would go home!!

I can’t begin to explain what I saw or what I experienced!!  It’s unlike anything I’ve ever been to before.  Now, I’ve been Image Hosted by ImageShack.usto Grateful Dead Concerts and Lollapalooza Concerts, but neither of those compare to what I experienced over the weekend.  People camped out for days and days before the race.  We parked in a field about a mile from the track.  The field was filled with tents and campers and people tail-gaiting.  People were passed out amongst empty beer cans and bottles of cheap vodka.  It looked like a huge continuous party had been going on for days.  Good times!!

Did I mention the characters I saw?  There were plenty of characters!!  There were characters!!  People spreading the word of the lord amongst people spreading The Herps!

Here are a few more pics…

These pics were taken within the first hour.  When we finally got to our seats, wait, let me re-phrase, when we finally got to our bleacher, I was pooped!!  The race hadn’t even started yet!!  I was in awe of the spectacle of drunkards and attendees!!  It’s supposedly a “family event” but it was farrr from it!!  There were party revelers everywhere!!  When the track lets you bring in your own cooler full of food and beer and they have a designated area what they call the “Party Deck”, you know it’s going to be a good time!!

Here are a few more pics from inside the track…Image Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.us

All in all, it was a good day!!  My first Indy 500 went off without a hitch, I even made it onto TV.  These last few pics, Danica Patrick was hit by another driver in front of where I was standing, so I got a few choice pics of the situation!  I had a great time with the BF!!  He always takes me to the nicest places!!  I hope when I take him to Greece he will be just as impressed!!

17 Weeks Later…

22 05 2008

I just had lunch with one of my best gal pals, Z.  Z had a party last Saturday to celebrate her completing grad school, Congrats to her!!  Unfortunately, I had to miss the party because of my Maytag Man.  Since, I had to miss Z’s BBQ, we decided to get together for lunch today.  Every other time we plan to get together, she punks out on me because of some lame work stuff.  Anyway, Z told me today that she is expecting her first child!!  YIPEEE!!!  Holy Shit!!  Awesome news!!  Then I asked her how far along she was and she told me that she was 17 weeks along.

17 weeks, I thought.  Let me do the math, that’s 4 months and a week!!  WTF!!!??  Thanks for telling me in a timely manner!!  Anyway, I’m extremely happy for Z and her hubby Y.  They don’t know what they are going to have, so we’ll just refer to the baby as X.  So, here’s hoping that X, Y, and Z will be a happy and loving family!!

CONGRATS!!!  Love ya!

WordPress vs. Blogger

16 05 2008

I started blogging last year, a friend of mine suggested that I start a blog to write about my life because crazy stuff seems to happen to me.  She was blogging on Blogger.com, so I decided to follow on blogger.com as well.  I didn’t do much investigation into the comparison subject.  After about 8 or 9 months of blogging on Blogger.com, I decided to see what other blog hosting sights were out there.  That’s when I found WordPress.com, I fell in love!!  I wasn’t love at first sight, I was very accustomed to Blogger.com, it was my home, and wordpress took some getting used to.  I had lots of questions.  Would my blogs transfer over?  Would I loose them forever?  Finally, I put my nose to the grindstone and started using wordpress.  I am extremely happy in my new home.  I feel like I’ve traded up!!

However, there are some pros and cons to both sites.  Let me see if I can get them straight.

WordPress Pros:

(1)  Detailed Dashboard - I love the fact that you blog stats are soo detailed.  You can see how many people viewed your blog as well as your specific posts.

(2)  The Page Layout Options – That was the biggest factor when I went on the hunt for a new blog hosting sight.  I am a woman of many, many moods.  Some days I want my blog to look a specific way, as far as design.  Although, I have yet to change the layout.  I love love love the layout I have right now!!

(3)  The Detailed Blog Posting Options – I love the fact that you not only have tags, but you can “file your posts” under categories!!

(a)  Media – I like the fact that you can add media (video, audio etc) to your posts.

(b)  The Insert More Option – I really like the fact the you can add a link at the bottom of your post so the viewer can click on it and read more of your post.  A kind of like “after the jump” sort of thing!!

(c)  Post-Page-Link Option – When you want to write something new, you have the option of writing a new post (like this), a new Page (like a new blog), or a new Link (you can create a new link at the top of you page for your readers to read).  For example, if I want to start to write about fashion or something, I can have a link at the top of my blog stating so and you would click on the link and find posts that are all fashion related.

(4)  I liked the fact that I could import my posts from blogger.

(5)  I like the fact that the spam comments are easily filtered out.

(6)  WordPress does a better job promoting other wordpress blogs to you.  For example, if you read one of my posts, wordpress will add a list of similar themed posts from other wordpress authors to the bottom of my post.  It’s easy to find other bloggers with similar interests, etc…

WordPress Cons:

(1)  I don’t like the fact that I have a difficult time inserting a picture into a post.  If I have a pic that I have on my computer, I either have to have it hosted on another web site or I can upload it and it can be inserted into my post as a gallery.  I wish I could upload the pic, make it any size I want, and place it where I want.  (Blogger.com is like that)

(2)  I’m having a difficult time getting the time zone correct.  I don’t know a lot about HTML coding, and I can’t figure out how to get the damn thing correct!!  It’s 8:30am and my blog says it’s 1:39pm.  Ugh!!!!

(3)  I’m having a difficult time trying to add extras to my blog.  If I want to add a list of my favorite books to my blog, it’s a bit difficult to do do.  It takes a lot more figuring out to do it here on wordpress than it did on blogger.

(4)  You can’t change the font of your post.  If I remember correctly, you choose the font on a separate page from where you create your post.  So, if you want a Courier font for this post, I cannot do it from the editing buttons provided.

Blogger Pros:

(1)  Easy to arrange page elements.  They’re all very self-explanatory to the HTML novice.

(2)  Very easy to create a post and publish.  Easy to insert a pic into your post and place the pic anywhere you want in your post.

(a) Easy to change the font of your post.

(3)  Easy to edit and set-up your profile.  I like that there fields that you fill-in and they post on your profile.

(4)  If you want to keep in touch with someone specific, there is a field where you can input their email address and every time you publish a new post, they’ll be notified that you have done so.

Blogger Cons:

(1)  Only a few templates to choose from to layout your blog.  Now, I know that you can go and get HTML templates from the Internet and insert them into blogger, but you can loose some of your page widgets if you use a foreign template.  :(

(2)  The Dashboard is not very detailed.  The wordpress dashboard puts the blogger dashboard to shame!!

(3)  You can’t break up your bog post into 2 pages like you can on wordpress.

(4)  There are just way fewer options on blogger than on wordpress.  I think you can get a more “professional” looking blog on wordpress.

Conclusion:

I’m happy to be here at wordpress!  I feel that more people are viewing my blog and I enjoy reading other people’s blogs.  My comparisons above are of my opinion.  I’m sure that there are ways to do things that I don’t know how to do, and I hope to learn those.  My opinions may change as I learn to become more HTML savvy.  I look forward to making my blog more pimped out!!  If you have any suggestions, please let me know!

Thanks for reading!

Home toilet use for women!!

13 05 2008

Last night I was on the phone with one of my girlfriends.  We were chit chatting, blah blah blah…  She asks me to hold on, in the background I hear water swooshing, gulping and gurggling.

She gets back on the phone and I ask her, “Are you plunging the toilet?”  She replies, “The toilet is backed up and my husband will kill me if he finds out!”

All right, all right.  I can feel the heat in my cheeks, my eyes are all aglow, goosebumps on my skin.  Now, if anyone knows me, they know I don’t back down from the difficult questions.  Like a 2 year old, here I go…

“Did you take a really big shit and flush too much paper?”   She said, No.

“Did you little boy flush his diaper down the toilet?”  She said, No.

Ok, I was hoping not to get to this question, but here it is.  “Did you flush a tampon down the toilet?”  She said, yes.  I said, “Don’t you know you never flush feminine products down your home toilet?”  She said, “yes, but I’m too lazy to properly wrap the products and throw them in the garbage.”  She said it also makes her sick to do so.  (Please keep in mind that all the while I’m asking her these questions, she is plunging the darned toilet.)

Then she starts explaining that this is not the first time that this has happened, and the her hubbie in the past has expressed extreme distaste when she does this.  So she’s standing in her bathroom at 11pm vigorously plunging the toilet because she not only flushed the tampon, but the PLASTIC applicator and the plastic wrapper.  Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!  And she’s trying to clear the toilet before her husband comes upstairs and catches her.  Vigorously, she plunges on…  Finally, I hear the draining of the toilet and the sweet gurgle at the end.

********AFTER THOUGHT********

So, I posted this blog with a final thought in mind, and I never expressed that thought.  Here it is…

The moral to this story is, (sorry that I have to use CAPS, but it’s necessary) DON’T FLUSH YOUR TAMPONS DOWN THE TOILET IN YOUR OWN HOME!!!!!!  They are not good for your plumbing.  I’ve spoken to a plumber about this and he says that they can get stuck in the pipes, because, hmmm, they swell, they’re made of cotton and they absorb liquids!!  Save your plumbing, and wrap the item in TP.  That’s all I have to say about this…

Sneaky Bastardos…

9 05 2008

A very interesting fact just came my way.  A friend of mine who works at the same company I do is a supervisor in another department.  Apparently, my friend and his colleague’s have been given VPN rights to snoop on their sub-ordinate’s computers.  How does this work, you ask?  HA!  I’ll tell you…

All the supervisors have the IP address to every computer their sub-ordinate’s are working on.  They have a program where the supervisor enters the IP address and boom they’re looking at your computer screen.  You won’t notice a thing, only a slight blink of your computer screen.

When my friend tried it out the other day, they (his peers and himself) surveyed 6 employees computers.  Of the 6 employees monitored, only 1 of the employees was doing actual work.  Others were on web site’s and etc…  Hell, they could be blogging about the state of their work situations!

I guess I really need to invest in the iPhone to keep my blogging and web activity up!

Happy Cinco de Mayo…

5 05 2008

I have to mark the holiday and say Happy May 5, to everyone!!  I am guessing that May 5 is some sort of Mexican Independence day.  Whatever is behind the day being a holiday, good times!!  I’ll have a Margarita or a Tecate to commemorate the day.

In other news, I had a really great weekend with my BF.  I drove up to Michigan Friday night and spent a great weekend with my man!!  I drove up Friday night and attended one of my BF’s co-worker’s house party.  It was a good time!  We got drunk then decided to go to a bar called The Boathouse.  On our way out of the house party we (me, BF, Whore-hey, and Hairy Chuck) noticed that the garage door was open, so “the boys” decided that it would be a good idea to empty some of the contents of the garage onto the lawn, roof, bushes and trees.  Needless to say, the owner of the house was not happy and it was the best laugh I had had in months.

The BF house “sprucing up” project is coming along quite nicely.  I have been driving up to Michigan every weekend for the past month to help move things along.  We have gotten the cabinets, doors and drawers primed and painted.  The walls in the kitchen are primed, sanded and ready for paint.  All the new appliances have arrived.  The stove was set into place and on Saturday we hung the microwave/oven hood combo.  (That was definitely a 2-person jobber)  We also went and picked up the new counter top.  So, yesterday, we pulled up the old counter-top (actually the BF worked on that while I touched up the cabinet doors).  Then we measured, re-measured, taped and measured again on where to cut out the hole in the new counter-top.  After an hour and a half of careful planning, we cut out the hole and safely inserted the sink.  PHEW…  We set down glue and quickly mounted the new counter-top on top of the old cabinets.  All that is left to do, in the kitchen, that is, paint the walls and lay the new floor!  I’m very excited about this, and it isn’t even my house.

All in all, it was a great weekend with the BF, hanging out with his friends and making real visual progress on his house.  I look forward to having a kick-ass party when we’re done!!

Celeb Look-alikes…

1 05 2008

I read a celebrity “gossip” web site called I’m Not Obsessed.  The web site is run by a Long Island, NY mom (Vera Sweeny) she reports celebrity gossip in a nice way.  I think it’s a cool site, something I check into every few hours or so while I’m at work.

Anyway, Vera has a picture of herself on the site with Jason Lewis from Sex and the CityLucky Girl!!  She also had a pic of Kim Raver from Lipstick Jungle (a show, if you read my blog, you all know I watch).  I commented on Vera’s web site that she looks like Kim Raver

What do you think???!!!!
