It’s the end of an era…

16 07 2008

Today marks the end of a great era.  My mother has sold our beach house!!!  :(   For the better part of this decade I have spent my summers on the beaches of Greece.  Well, one beach in particular… the beach located in Nea Hora in Chania on the island of Crete.  Pictured to the right…

But I guess all is not lost…

We still have a lovely house in the village with a distant view (the above headline pic on this blog is our view) of the sea.  It’s only a 10 minute drive down to the beach.  The water is much much cleaner at the Kalives Beach.

Also, there is no threat that an earthquake will collapse the house.  The beach condo is located in a building that is in desperate need of reinforcing.  My mother no longer has to pay condo association dues.  The beach condo building will eventually need a new boiler, a new elevator, the toilet in the bathroom leaks… yada yada yada.    So, while it’s sad that we are losing a place that has a wonderful view, we are not sad about losing the burden that goes along with it.

Return to Self…

18 06 2008

For the past several months, I have been spending a lot of time with the BF.  He got a new job and he had to move, so I’ve been spending a lot of weekends at his house helping him finish his remodeling project.  Needless to say, I’ve been spending so much time with him that I’ve neglected my own friends and my life.

Now it’s time I return to myself.  It started last weekend, Friday night I attended a friend’s 30th birthday party, solo.  Then Saturday night, I had a girls night out with a couple of my girlfriends from high school.  Oh no, firends, it doesn’t stop there…  This weekend on Saturday, I am going to have another girls day, with another group of friends.  The plan is to spend the day at a frou frou fitness club.  The kind that people spend the day at.  They have an on-site spa, restaurant and pool on the roof.  Then after that, we’re going out for drinks and then dinner.  A very excellent girls day out.

I’ve also decided to go ahead and book my yearly trip to Greece, without the BF.  He’s been very wishy-washy about booking a ticket and commiting to a date range.  So, I told him the other night that I was going to book my ticket and if he wanted to meet me out there he was more than welcome, however, I wasn’t going to wait for him anymore.  So, THERE!!!

I see that my life is moving on, with ot without me.  I prefer it move on with me!  I’ve decided that I’m going to back off from seeing soo much of the BF.  This summer is my summer.  I don’t want to end my relationship with him, because I love him to death.  I believe that pulling back just a bit and re-entering my life, I’ll be more self-assured and therefore, become more attractive to my BF and myself!!

Back from Outer Space

19 09 2007

Yes, people I am back for your entertaining pleasure. I am not at all very coherent at this point as I am still quite jet lagged, but I am here to update you all on my recent European adventure. First and foremost, as per my last blog, I have cut down on my use of profanity, immensely! It helps being away from work!

My vacation went very well!! I didn’t do a whole lot, just hung out with the family and went to the beach. My mother did a bit of corruption, as if I wasn’t corrupt enough, she took me on some fig and orange “acquiring” adventures. (Videos below!) We raided fig and orange trees on other people’s property. Of course, my mother knows these people and they don’t mind if we help ourselves the a few pieces of fruit! Other than that, my vacation went smoothly.

There are some observations that I made while I was over there, and made note of that I will comment on in future blogs. So stay tuned!!

Memorial Day Weekend in "The Big Apple"

1 06 2007

Memorial Day weekend “the girls” (from bottom left Christy, Jessica, Jen, Jodi, Me and Pam) and I jetted off to New York City for a girls weekend. We ate, drank, shopped and shopped some more. New York was fabulous dahling, just fab!!

I have never been on official “girls weekend” that didn’t involve gambling and Las Vegas. This was not only my official foray into JUST shopping and dining, but it was also my frist trip to NYC!! It was a very exciting weekend for yours truly! I look back at the weekend and I realize my eyes were glazed over at looking at all the merchandise that was available to me at EXTREMELY reasonable prices. I think to myself, “why didn’t I buy that?” I don’t know what was going through my head, just all around craziness!! I think I was almost paniced at the whole process of it all.

Of Course while I was there we did do some very touristy things. We went to the Empire State Building, we took the Staten Island Ferry to get a good look at the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Times Square, China Town, Battery Park and we mastered the lovely Subway system!! Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure!

All in all, I had a wonderful time with some very wonderful girls!! It was a great weekend and I couldn’t have had better travel partners!! I’m looking forward to another trip back to NYC and more clear headed shopping.
